This research project focuses on understanding the molecular mechanism underlying arrhythmias originating in the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) with the aim to improve future risk stratification in patients. The RVOT is the preferential site of origin of arrhythmias in a variety of cardiac pathologies. Extensive research in the last decade has provided insight into the mechanisms underlying these arrhythmias, but the question why these arrhythmias often start in the RVOT and not elsewhere in the heart has remained unanswered. The experimental work in this project comprises state-of-the-art molecular sequencing techniques as well as high resolution electrical and optical mapping of the RVOT of intact hearts. Furthermore, the PhD candidate will learn to write scientific articles and will participate in national and international scientific meetings. Candidates with drive and an excellent Master's degree in biology or other natural sciences, or medicine, are invited to apply. You are able to work independently but also in a team.
